At SPring-8, many new beamlines are currently under construction. In additional, several proposals for new beamlines are being considered. Beamlines at the SPring-8 facility are categorized into three types: - Public beamlines constructed by SPring-8 and open to public use. This category includes R&D beamlines that were categorized differently in the previous Research Frontiers. - JAERI/ RIKEN beamlines constructed by JAERI/ RIKEN for their exclusive use. - Contract beamlines constructed by the private groups for their exclusive use. BL20XU and BL35XU will follow those two beamlines. 107 Seven beamlines have been constructed/are under construction for their exclusive use by JAERI and RIKEN scientists: BL11XU Materials Science (JAERI) BL14B1 Materials Science (JAERI) BL19IS Synchrotron Radiation Physics Studies (RIKEN) BL23SU Actinide Studies by Soft X-rays (JAERI) BL29XU Coherent X-ray Optics (RIKEN) BL44B2 Structural Biology II (RIKEN) BL45XU Structural Biology I (RIKEN) BL19IS is a 30 m-long straight section beamlines and the installation of long undulators will be performed after rearrangement of storage ring magnets in summer, 2000. BL29XU was completed as a beamline with a standard length of 80 m. However, the extension outside of the storage ring building to 1 km is scheduled for completion in March, 2000.
